Young adults feeling the desire to live into the calling of their generation -- to live well and do good for the environment and their community -- need to cultivate the necessary awareness and skills foundational to creating sustainable livelihoods.

 
            They will need to learn to be creative stewards
                    of their time, talents, and treasures.  

                                     They will need to be innovative,
                    collaborative and cooperative in creating fresh
                          business models and opportunities.

 

Details:

Ages: 15-32 (and up)

Location: At the Stone House near Mebane, NC (with trips to  Chapel Hill / Carrboro, Durham & Pittsboro)

Sustainable Vocations -- North Carolina prepares young people for diverse leadership roles that integrate sustainability into their communities and provides an experiential introduction to the growing green jobs market.  

With an emphasis on our sacred connection to natural landscape, this hands-on and immersive vocational program is designed to connect young peoples’ passions with the creative skill-sets necessary for truly sustainable, rewarding livihoods.

The program offers young people an introduction to internationally recognized Permaculture Design curriculm.  The principles of Permaculture provide the backbone for the training course and introduce a holistic pathway for sustainable design and practice. 

Participants will leave the program as more innovative, sensitive and cooperative stewards of our shared environments; and as inspired leaders, cultivating a more sustainable culture. They will have an understanding of green economies and how to create opportunities for themselves that leverage their unique talents.

As a participant:

  • Build a close relationship to the landscape that sustains you
  • Learn where you fit in to the emerging Green Economy
  • Design a life path that is in alignment with your core values
  • Get savvy on Green Jobs and how you can find one and create your own
  • Meet and learn from existing specialists and green entrepreneurs  
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the need for diversity, both socially and in nature.
  • Distinguish between good green business and green washing
  • Harness skills for integrative design with local resources
